T&D FORESEES A BRIGHT ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE FUTURE
Introduction:
As 2024 draws to a close, T&D looks forward to a shining future for the electric motorcycle industry. Technology development has reached new heights in recent months, rider confidence is growing as the supporting infrastructure blooms, and global government sustainability policies are pointing towards electric motorbikes as the way forward.
T&D Founder and General Manager, Sunny He, puts it as simply as possible: “It’s the e-motorcycle time!” He took the time to look back on a remarkable year for T&D and the wider electric motorcycle industry, and reflected further back to the origins of this vital sustainable transport sector.
A busy 2024 trade show schedule
T&D were busy all around the world during 2024, interacting with motorcycle brands and riders at trade shows in Latin America, Asia and Europe. A broad range of sample motorcycles from partner brands were displayed, each showcasing drive systems developed by T&D specifically for a variety of end uses.
In Colombia and Brazil, visitors to Feria de las 2 Ruedas in May, and Expo 2 Ruedas and Festival Moto Brasil in August, were able to explore city commuter motorcycles equipped with a variety of T&D’s Forest series of powertrains – LI01, LI02 and LI015. Long-lasting battery life and consistent, reliable performance are prioritized, for bikes that provide dependable daily urban riding. At Festival Moto Brasil an off-road motorcycle sporting the FE02 powertrain was also on display, the Binsen developed by SWM.
T&D took part in two major Chinese trade shows during 2024; China Cycle in May with 6 sample motorcycles covering commuter, off-road and touring categories, and CIMA in September with 8 partner motorbike brands showcasing powertrain options for both commuter and off-road cycles, again with distinct characteristics to best support varying usage scenarios.
At Europe’s landmark two-wheeler event Eurobike in July, T&D displayed off-road motorbikes developed by partner brands SWM and Cheerdmoto in conjunction with T&D’s development team, featuring the FE01 and FE02 powertrains. As November came around, T&D and partner brands also made an impact at EICMA in Italy and Motorcycle Live in the UK, with a range of motorcycle categories represented. Reflecting on the experience at EICMA, Sunny He stated, “Despite visitor number fluctuations, the genuine interest from experts in the e-motorbike sector has increased for T&D.”
Throughout 2025, T&D will once again be participating in a number of trade shows around the world, showcasing their innovative drive system solutions and comprehensive services.
A new chapter begins
A notable change in T&D’s status came as it was acquired by an independent company, Gallop Electric, marking a significant step in business expansion, and allowing T&D to focus ever more deeply on advancing the development of the electric motorcycle industry. Its ability to collaborate flexibly with strategic partner brands in the electric motorbike sector is now even greater, opening up a new path for sustainable transportation development. Existing collaborative partnerships with well-known brands will be deepened over the next year and beyond; details of these will be shared at key moments as projects come to fruition.
With several distinct powertrain systems already available within the off-road Storm and city commuter Forest ranges, T&D is predicting strong market share growth over the next 3 to 5 years in these motorbike categories. The company’s ability to develop complete drive systems for specific motorcycle projects is a significant advantage to product developers. In the coming months and years, T&D is working to enhance even further the ease of assembling and incorporating the main units, and to boost user-friendliness for end-users, leading to greater confidence for both motorcycle brands and riders.
A bright future informed by the past
T&D has a solid foundation of innovation for the electric motorcycle sector, with a team boasting many years’ expertise in developing efficient, reliable drive systems for electric-powered two-wheeled transport. Sunny He sees the industry as currently being at a significant turning point, drawing on his decades of experience in the e-bike industry. “A bright future is here now – and this is why T&D’s focus on development is even stronger than ever. When looking back to 2010, and the young e-bike industry compared to how it is now, we can see that the e-motorbike trade will be flourishing in next to no time. It’s certain to grow even more rapidly and powerfully. It’s the e-motorcycle time!”
Sunny He went on to outline the world-class facilities and services T&D has to offer. “T&D has integrated a full suite of drive technologies, with all software, hardware, and mechanical design developed in-house. T&D also possesses robust testing capabilities with advanced testing equipment and flexible automated production facilities. This allows us to deliver highly integrated products to the industry, achieving product platformization and technological modularization, thereby meeting the goal of service standardization. Additionally, T&D has full technical development capabilities for drive systems, offering customers one-stop solutions and facilitating personalized design requirements.”
