T&D ANNOUNCES NEW COMPANY STATUS WITH GALLOP
T&D enters a new era with Gallop, with aims of continuing its focus towards global expansion and innovation
Introduction
T&D, previously under Bafang Electric (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., had recently undergone restructuring and has been acquired by an independent company, Gallop Electric (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. Going forward, the T&D brand will belong to Gallop Electric.
The new parent company of T&D, Gallop Electric, means "to power forwards," signifying that T&D has expanded from Bafang's original e-motorcycle division into an independent company.
This development marks a significant step for the new company in business expansion and strategic transformation. The aim is for Gallop to invest more resources and focus on advancing in the field of e-motorcycle drive systems, offering more professional and efficient services to customers.
T&D is headed by Founder and General Manager Sunny He, who has many years of experience in the development of electric drive systems. He was Co-founder, Director and Senior Engineer of Bafang Electric, and has at various points held the positions of Chief Engineer, Marketing Director and Deputy General Manager. With a strong technical background, he is the inventor of 100 patents within the sector.
Infrastructure as a precursor
Recent years have shown a steady shift towards electric motorcycles in international markets, with the transition often highlighted in industry reports and major exhibitions. The movement toward electric is particularly pronounced in China’s first and second-tier cities, where strong public charging infrastructure and heavy traffic congestion make electric motorcycles an attractive choice. Converting professional riders to electric motorcycles can happen in a matter of hours, underscoring the increasing demand.
Market development trends
Industry estimates project that 60% of the international motorcycle market will eventually transition to electric. Some sources estimate that electric motorcycle sales are expected to reach 27 million units annually, equating to a market size of 15.5 billion US dollars by 2032. In Southeast Asia alone, fossil-fuel-powered motorcycles currently sell 20–30 million units annually, signalling ample potential for electric conversion. Meanwhile, Europe and the United States serve as primary import markets for Chinese electric motorcycles, indicating a global shift toward sustainable transportation.
The electric motorcycle industry, positioned at the intersection of new energy and smart technology, is experiencing unprecedented growth. Forward-thinking brands are leading this transformation, with T&D as a prime example. Established in 2021 as Bafang’s electric motorcycle division, T&D overcame technical hurdles, released systems for five key motorcycle categories, developed a comprehensive e-motorcycle drive system, and formed partnerships with major global motorcycle companies. Now, as an independent entity under Gallop Electric (Suzhou) Co., Ltd, T&D is ready to ride the next wave of growth, focusing on emerging markets in Southeast Asia and Europe.
Technology and dedication
Now as an independent brand, T&D continues to excel in equipment, manufacturing, technology, and quality control. However, expanding across diverse markets can be challenging and requires targeted R&D and localised operations, to build a unique competitive advantage for each region.
This new chapter represents a bold step for T&D as the brand ventures beyond its established expertise. Fortunately, after years of exploration and development with their five-system series and comprehensive drive solution as a solid foundation, T&D will combine its technical capabilities with Gallop Electric’s innovative and dynamic spirit to expand its global presence. Supported by a committed team, T&D will empower R&D, production, and sales to create drive systems that better cater to modern consumers, enhancing the enjoyment of electric motorcycles worldwide.
Responding to the times
Twenty years ago, China opened its motorcycle market to foreign companies in exchange for acquisition of technology. Today, amid global policies on energy conservation and emission reduction, many countries are imposing restrictions on internal combustion engine motorcycles. China’s mature manufacturing sector together with its cost-efficiency advantage underscores the performance benefits of electric motorcycles produced in the country. Together, with new energy vehicles, Chinese electric motorcycles are becoming an unstoppable force on an international stage.
Over the last two decades, Chinese manufacturing has evolved significantly. In contrast with past expansions, reliant on low-cost imitation and low prices, today, companies including T&D are venturing outwards with their technology, innovation, and ambition.
